Both my autoexec and config file are empty. And my mouse only works in
safe mode. I can't find any mouse.com file on my computer. Is that what
I need to make it work again? I have no backup of these files what can I
do. And most important, I need my mouse to work. Thanks.

I don't believe you need any command in Autoexec.bat or Config.sys to
make your mouse work for Win98. Since it works in Safe Mode, it means
something else is stopping it. Recently I encountered a similar
scenario where a parallel printer being on when booting into Windows was
stopping the mouse from being detected in Win98. You don't have a
printer attached to this computer and turned on when booting, do you?

The printer I dealt with was a Lexmark that came on when the main power
switch on a power strip was turned on. The operator was using the power
strip to control the monitor, computer, and the printer power. One
would have thought that the printer would have assumed the OFF position
when power was first applied to it, but that was not the case. When I
sought an answer as to why the printer being on effected the detection
of the mouse when booting into Windows but not if turned on after it had
booted, some readers thought it might have something to do with PNP.
Since this computer was not mine and miles away, I simply told the
operator to make sure the printer was off when booting into Windows.

Good, they would be unless some other software needed them.

No, that would be only for 3rd party app that runs in DOS
and needs mouse.

You failed to mention the hardware, only software. This is
a hardware group. Things like whether it's PS2 or USB might
be important.

Look in Device manager and see if anything looks wrong, with
both the mouse and the port it's using.

What has changed since it last worked properly?
