lost authentic code for windows xp

i am thinking of rebooting my system but have just found
out that i cant find the original authentic code is there
any way of finding it out

This utility works for retail versions:
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/ViewKeyXP.exe

For OEM versions, download and install Aida32 from:
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32

You want the Personal Operating System version. The key is under OS
information.

Or, try this one which just gives you the key:

You do not need a code to reboot your PC. If what you mean to say is to
REBUILD your PC, yes, you will need the CD key that is either on the back of
the jewel case the CD came in, or on a label on the PC itself.

No codes are needed to reboot. Most of us do this every day.

Did you mean to re-*format* the drive and reinstall the operating
system? You can find the Product key with any of these:

No code, "authentic" or otherwise, is needed to reboot a PC.
Simply click Start > Shutdown > Restart.
