Lost all sound

out of the blue the sounds on my computer just stopped. system restore does
not date back before the problem started. I don't know how to begin to solve
this problem, please give suggestions on what I should do. btw, dxdiag shows
that all DirectX is working properly. Help!

What is your soundcard hardware? Look in Device Manager (from the System
applet in Control Panel under Hardware). Is there a yellow exclamation
mark under the sound category? Does anything appear for sound
hardware? Are the speakers on and plugged in properly?

We need more information about your computer in order to give you
focused troubleshooting.

If you have Real Player installed, open it and check it's not set to
Mute.... for some unfathomable reason it overrides the main volume settings.
Took me forever to find that one when I did it!
