Lost all printers and cannot add new ones

I have read all the articles listed, updated the system registry, manually
started the print spooler and I still cannot add a printer. Any ideas, I am
at my wits end here.
 
How are the printers connected to the computer?
USB port?
Network port? (Ethernet)
Parallel port?

Did you install anything or change anything (software) right before the
problem started?

If the printers are interfaced via USB, it may be that you will need to
uninstall and reinstall the USB subsystem for the USB controller & USB
ports.
 
2nd attempt:

I have a TCP/IP printer. I did have other print drivers installed at the
time, but I no longer use these printers.

The computer crashed on Monday while I was using Peachtree Accounting 2005.
Then it progresses to crashing at boot up for a fault in Norton 360. I have
spent the last several days correct corrupted accounting files, removing and
reloading Norton 360. This is when I discovered there were no printers.

I have not installed any programs in 2 months, but Windows did an update
this week.
 
I had to reformat drive and reinstall windows XP. It was then that I
discovered that I had a bad RAM card. Removed the bad card and the PC has
worked fine ever since.
