while I was trying to backup my outlook with business contacts mgr. which I
could not do. I lost all of my contacts!!!!! I was not asked about
deleting... so I hope the info is still in the machine.., I checked the
search files in windows for them. with no luck. Any suggestions?

The BCM data is stored in an MSDE database. The database file is
typically in the following directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user_login>\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\FORMS

and has the extension mdf.

I tried looking for that directory, After C:\Documents and Settings\ the
only choice I have is Adminstrator, my name , or all users. I tried typing
exactly the way you had it, but it comes up with error message. I was trying
to back up the outlook files to a flash drive. The calender, and e-mails,and
the few regular contacts that I put in are there, just the larger file of
business contacts is totally missing.

Lenny,

From reading your posts I am not sure just what you did but it IS possible to
delete business contacts by merely highlighting them and hitting the delete
key. The place they would end up though would be your deleted items folder
under the BCM Folder tree. Don't mind my asking but have you clicked on this
folder to check there? Also, had you created a backup of the BCM db before
this happened? If so, you will find the default location for the BCM backup
file under My Documents/Business Contact Manager/Backup and you can then of
course restore your data to as current as the point of your last backup. A
last question. Is your BCM db still effectively linked to the current
Outlook profile? I assume that everything else is still working.

It would really help if you can reconstruct the steps for what you were
attempting to do. This could lend some clues. I doubt that your data is
fully lost unless you also emptied your deleted items folders somehow without
remembering that you did but this would have to be fairly intentional to do.
