Lost administrator rights - how do I retrieve it ?

Hello all....
I am the sole user of my PC and had administrator rights
prior and now my rights have been reduced to a limited
account ; no other accounts exist on my PC - only the
limited account.
How do I re-establish my rights to the administrator
account ... if possible ?

Windows XP Home or Professional?
Is it a name-brand or home-grown PC (Dell, HP, etc - or no-name?)
Did you install Windows XP yourself or was it already installed?
Do you understand the concept of safe mode?
Have you tried pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice and entering administrator as the
username with no password?
Is the account you log in with actually *the* administrator account, or does
it have another name?

I am having the same problem and don't really see the answer. but anyway I installed xp myself. It's a dell computer (windows 98 before). I discovered this when it woudn't let me schedule any events, saying I wasn't an administrator. I followed the instructions to be that, but it kept givign me the same message that I didn't have rights. but I'm the only user. I saw your con-alt-del 2x suggestion - from what mode do I do that?

XP Pro - any mode.. At the Welcome Screen.

XP Home - doesn't work - have to boot into Safe mode.
