Just recently lost administrator privileges on my home
PC. There are no other user profiles except mine
(administrator) on my home PC. I can access "internet
options" via the control panel but not through IE6. Ran
all sorts of virus/firewall/spyware checks to make sure
that nothing had been infected. Nothing had, but have
noticed a very large increase in the amount of blocked
ping/echo requests. Don't knoe if this is due to recent
IE6 patches downloaded via MS updates. IE6 runs fine, but
I am concerned I will have problems installing future
software w/o Admin. provileges. Don't know if narrative
form of issue is well stated, but Dell was no help and, of
course, MS tells me to call the manufacturer. Anyone have
any thoughts?

Regards

I had the same problem, but I think mine WAS due to
spyware (it kept also changing my homepage.)

Anyway, what I found on the XP support board was a site
(http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) that has
lots of fixes and things of that sort. I found a fix for
it here. If/ when you go to the site, you can search
manually for the fix; there is a list of I'm not sure how
many fixes (I saw 270), but this particular fix is # 268,
I think. Check that out, and see if that solves your
problem. Also, if you are able to re-gain access to
Internet Options, one thing that I did was to go into the
advanced tab and uncheck "Enable third party extentions."
Try that, and hopefully your problem will be somewhat
solved. One other thing, I have registered at a site
called Net integration that seems to have lots of info and
suggestions on spyware, popups, unexpected changes in IE,
and other things of that sort.

Hope this helps! : )
