Hi there,
Hope I'm in the right place and someone can help me. I'm
somewhat knowledgable about computers but obviously don't
that much. I was trying to give another user
administrator priveledges (i can't remember where I did
this)and overwrote 'user' where administrator was by
mistake. Now, i've lost the ability to change some
settings, and some programs/files aren't working to boot.
Hope there is smonething that I can do to fix this.
Thanks in advance,

Red

I am not very clear about your issue but it seems like you have renamed the
built-in administrator account to "user".
If so, Just rename it back.

Yeah, basically I renamed the built-in administrator. I
have tried to change it back but am unable to find the
place to do that. I've gone to settings, control panel,
users and passwords and cannot see the same box that I
changed the names. Is there any other place to change the
names back.

Thanks, Red

For a built-in/GUI solution, go to Control Panel/Administrative
Tools/Computer Management. Then go to Local Users and Groups, then Users.
Right click on the user account and choose Rename.

Since this is a command-prompt newsgroup, I should also recommend my
freeware utility BUILTIN.EXE, which will let you rename the Administrator
account locally or remotely, even if you don't know what the current name
is:
