Greetings all,

Please help me out in this tricky situation. I have bought
an old computer which I thought I was given the
administrator password. It turns out that the account that
I have is a limited account and I am not able to find out
the adminstrator account Log in name and password. I can't
use LC4 as suggested by somebody before as I can't even
load the program. Please do help me out. I have spent good
money on it. thanks

try not putting anything in the password box, ie leave it blank.

Winternals makes a s/w package called locksmith that will do the job,
however it is a bit pricey. $199 for the ERD Commander 2003 that include
locksmith and a bunch of other really cool utilities, really is worth the
price for all utilities, but not just for locksmith.

Sunbelt software also makes an NT admin Password recovery software called
NTAccess - $70 http://www.sunbelt-software.com/product.cfm?id=265

Here is another one, but again high priced - $199 -

here is an alternate, and free, utility. I cannot tell you if this one
works or not, as there are many out there, I have tried a couple, but
unfortunately do not remember wich ones.

Offline NT Password & Registry Editor, Bootdisk -

Good luck

Hello:

Not quite sure if this will work. I haven't tried to set up a new
Administrator account this way.

I am assuming that you are using XP home and not Professional. Professional
has other features that give you access to the Administrator accounts.

There is a hidden Administrator account that you can access by starting your
computer in Safe Mode (by pressing F8 during startup). Hope this works.
