lost address book & e-mail record

Got virused last week and crashed my computer, (running
windows 2000 professional). My IT guy ended up having to
do a fresh install of windows to solve all the problems.
This meant I had to reload a number of programs. After
completion I could not find my e-mail address book or any
old saved e-mails. Where or how can this be recovered?
 
Unless those items were kept out on the exchange server,
you're hosed. If it was on the C drive, it's gone.
