Loss of wireless network access

I am at a loss on what to check now. I have several wireless routers
which I am trying use (one at a time.) Both USB wireless adapters
that I have (Trendnet and SMC) randomly loose my wireless network
completely (no wireless network listed) in Windows Zero
Configuration. I have looked for possible cause in my Windows XP Pro
and found nothing wrong. In May 2007, my hard drive crashed so I now
have a "fresh" install of XP since then and problem still occurs.
However, I still using the "wired" part of my routers until I can get
a reliable wireless network.

I have tried the following:

Routers: SMC SMCWBR14T, Trendnet TEW-432BRP & TEW-452BRP (died.)

Wireless Adapters: SMC SMCWUSBT-G, Trendnet TEW-444UB

Each with the latest available drivers (adapters) and firmware
(routers.)

What do I need to check next?

Try switching your router channels. There may be interference from
wireless phones or other sources.

I've tried different channels but still not a stable wireless
network. It seems that my USB adapters just "loose" the complete
wireless network signals (not just mine but sometime every wireless
signal in my area.) I suspect the USB ports, either the power USB 2
hubs or the add-on USB 2 ports, are somehow resetting the adapters
since by disconnecting the USB adapters (Safely Remove Hardware
option) and reconnecting will reset the wireless signals.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Root Hubs" properties
Start->Run devmgmt.msc

That was the first thing I have checked. I will check again later
this evening.

Weel. I have checked all the USB root hubs and de-activate the USB
power option "Allow computer to turn power off.." for every one, even
the older USB 1.1 port that the adapters never use. It seems to make

(TEW-444UB and SMC SMCWUSBT-G) now appear to be stuck at 54.0Mbps
transmit power instead of their published 108Mbps rates. I have check
my SMC SMCWBR14T wireless speed settings and it is supposedto be @
180Mbps also.

What sould I check next?

Please make that "@ 208Mbps" instead of "180Mbps."

Boy, I'm out of it! Make that "108Mbps", not "208Mbps" nor "180Mbps."



Also, now it has be 24 hours + and I now have 108Mbps speeds. What
could have cause my problem?

Well, my problem is "back." I am now looking at my USB 2.0 ports to
be the problem. I found an updated XP drivers for them (ALi based)
and will try these out.

I have completely done a "reset" of my USB ports ( with a batch file
to clear out USB setting and "devcon") and it now seems to be stable.

Update to this thread, so as to help others!

Well, it does seem that the USB ports add-on PCI adapter may be the
entire source of my problem. It seem that the hardware was cause
various hardware issues (PC refusal to boot, BIOS reset and no "POST"
at start-up) Replaced it and alls well.
 
Well, my problem is "back." I am now looking at my USB 2.0 ports to
be the problem. I found an updated XP drivers for them (ALi based)

My final update to this post! Turned out my previous USB 2.0 PCI add-
on ports were using an "uncompatible' ALi chipset (at least for my
PC.) Replaced them with NEC based USB 2.0 PIC adapter and all seems
to be ok!

Hey smlunatick i sent you an email but i dont know if you got it. I
have the exact same problem as you. Could you send me the file you
used to reset your ports. also could you explain what you mean but Pci
add on ports? Do i just use driver cleaner to clean the usb drivers
and install updated ones or something? thanks in advance. Trendnet
have been woeful in helping so far.

PCI add-on ports == Separate PCI card which connects to a white PCI
motherboard connector to add additional USB 2.0 ports.
