I have a new computer that has 3 printers installed and
working properly for appox. 4 weeks. Today I went to the
Control Panel/Printers & Faxes and none of my printers
are listed. They still show up in each programs printer
setup and work properly. I did install the most recent XP
patch this a.m. but cannot say for sure that this caused
the problem since I had not accessed the control panel
for several days. I also tried the system restore back
to 2 weeks ago but get the same results. Is there any
way to get control panel to recognize these printers
without re-installing windows?

I read previous post about restarting the print spooler.
When I checked the services under computer management it
said the the service was started. I tried stopping then
restarting but still no change. I also tried
reinstalling one of the printers. It went through the
normal process of installation but still does not show up.

I have the same problem..it was my post you read the
answer to and I got the same thing as you did...I read
somewhere once about a DLL that was corupted for this
type of error under Win 2000 Pro but I cannot seem to
find the reference to that article any longer in the
Knowledge base. Maybe you can try as well and e-mail if
you find anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. I searched my windows folder
and did find 2 .dll files other than the ones noted in
the help file. I also searched the system32 folder but
did not find matching files. I tried renaming the other
2 files, one at a time, but it did not make a change to
the control panel/printer folder. It was definitely
worth a try. Let me know if you have any luck with your
system.
