Loss of Network Connection on XP

I have 2 PC's connected to a broadband router. One running
Windows 2000 and the other XP. If the XP machine is
sitting idle, i.e. not being used to access the internet,
it loses its network connection to the internet and the
other PC, however, the Win2K PC can still access the
internet. Before the XP PC can establish a connection I
must disable and re-enable the connection.
I am a faults technician for a cable company and I am
required to resolve faults with regards to our cable modem
service. I have came across the same problem on our
customers PC's (only those running XP). I have a friend
running XP who hasn't had any problems of this kind.
Any suggestions as to what could cause this would be much
appreciated.

.

On your XP machine go into control panel - system -
hardware - device manager - and find driver for your
router - go into properties - power management and click
on "allow this device to bring the computer out of
standby". Could also try experimenting with
enabling/disabling "allow the computer to turn off this
device to save power."
Looks like a power management problem. If not router try
doing same as above for each network interface card on
system - especially if connected to router..
