Hi,
I have a emachine I've used to update my web site on a regular basis. It
runs 24/7. Use's WinME.
I have my mp3's stored on this machine as well.
I have 4 other computers on my home network using a Linksys router.
On the emachine, there appears to be very heavy network traffic. If I go to
play an mp3 from this machine, it will pause every few seconds. Never had
that problem the prior 2 years.
If I transfer a file from or too this machine, it is very slow.
The router port the emachine is plugged into shows CONTINOUS network
activity with collisions. This starts occurring the minute I power up the
machine, ever before it boots to windows.

With the machine running, if I do much transferring of files to/from this
machine in the least, I completely loose the network connection on this
machine. I have to power down and restart to regain the network connection.

I've ran Norton on it when this first started and it found MSblast worm. I
also ran the Msblast repair program from norton. They both say the machine
is now clean. But I still have this weird problem. I'm thinking that since
the network activity light goes thru the roof the moment I power on this
machine, it's probably not virus related. Is the NIC card bad maybe?
I'm stumped, Suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Have you checked for spyware? Download adaware or spybot.
A program may be relaying continously from the LAN. Have
you checked task manager to see what is using all the
resources? Cheers.
