Hi All,

I have internal DNS, Domain Controller on a Win 2K Advanced Server with 5
machines (Win 2K, Win XP & Win 98) and 5 users (kids / wife) logging on. I
have done the four main courses of MCSE but am still fairly novice...
Mostly everything works hunkey dorry, sometimes all machines loose internet
access. If I Shut down the server and then re-boot router / cable modem
then restart the server this 8/10 times resolves the problem.

I have been told that this is DNS "forwarders are not allowed" if this is
correct can you let me know the Blueyonder DNS IP Address to set up
forwarders...

Many Thanks Joe :-)

PS all internal network conectivity is consistently good / fast ists just
the internet.... Please Help !!

All Win2k and XP machines must use the DC for DNS, never an ISP's DNS on
them. For internet resolution configure your DNS server as per this KB
article making sure you have deleted the "." Forward lookup zone, as per the
article you can use your ISPs DNS as forwarders, which is recommended.

JD> sometimes all machines loose internet access

They should tighten it again, then.

JD> I have been told that this is DNS "forwarders are not allowed"

Who told you that ? Did they explain what they meant by it ? It
doesn't mean much as it stands.

JD> can you let me know the Blueyonder DNS IP Address to set up
JD> forwarders...

Yes, with some research. But you can just as easily go to the
help section of your ISP's web site and look up this information
yourself.

Point all machines to your Windows 2000 DNS server only. Make sure that this server doesn't have a "." root zone configured in the forward lookup zones.
You have the option to configured forwarders on your DNS server that point to your ISP is you want. This isn't a required step. Next, make sure that Secure
Cache agains pollution is check on the Advanced tab of the properties of your DNS server in the DNS MMC.
