Despite being logged on as administrator, I'm getting this error when I try
to access regedit:

"Windows cannot access the specificed device, path, or file. You may not
have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

This all started because I couldn't install SP2 on my friend's machine... It
seems to think he is not the administrator. What's going on?

Hi:

It coul be a spyware issue... it is highly recommended to
install SP2 on a clean system so you better install spyware
cleaners to find out if infact that is problem.

Before you install the following programs, clean the cookies
and Temporary internet Files from the system with the buttons
in Internet Options\General... After you install the programs
update them before scanning the system.
One program might find what others miss so install all three
to make sure the system is completely clean before you try
to install the SP2 update..

Steps to follow before installing SP2 to prevent potential conflicts
with other software on your computer:
