loss my audio

I loss my audio completely after downloaded an update from real one player.
I have a desk top with xp home. I have checked my audio icon and they are
all set in max. volume. There is no loose cable. I have tried uninstall and
reinstall the real one player. It just all suddenly went no sound. can anyone
help me and make my computer talk again
