Losing internet connection

I don't lose my internet while using it, but after being away a while, I
often find I can no longer go to any website (Page won't Display) and once in
a while lose email also. Sometimes Refresh works, but usually only rebooting
works. SBC DSL has spent considerable time on the phone, but the problem has
persisted for 4 months. I have a Gateway G6-400 PC, Windows XP, IE6, OE6,
Zone Alarm, & SBC Online Protection. The lines were checked, SpeedStream
5100 modem works, phoneline filter switched, SBC Online Protection
reinstalled. I use timed screensaver & power down settings.
 
Check your power options, perhaps your modem is going into sleep mode
and logging you off the internet. If you enter sleep mode I think all
of your devices shut down their repective connections
 
I have the same problem and it is really a pain, I have XPmedia edition sp2
and a brand new computer. It initally began after I installed some windows
updates. I did a system restore to the point B4 the updates and it worked
for a while. I'm not sure how to fix the problem. Dell support is no help at
all. Their solution to everything is to a whole system restore which is fine
since they are not the ones that have to re-install all the software and data
files. The old computer had XP sp2 and it never had this problem. I also
have SBC dsl, but the other computer on the same line, never has this problem
so I believe it is a software issue.
