Geoffrey

Hey all, Everytime I leave the pc for more than half an
hour, I'll come back and it seems as though my DNS has
dropped. Not sure if this is a windows issue but
rebooting get's it working again. I am able to browse pre-
opened websites, but can't pull up new ones. I'm running
on a wireless smc router. I can't ping fqdn, not sure
what to do... thanks for your info! -Geoffrey.

Hi, Geoffrey -

If you run "ipconfig /flushdns" from a command prompt and
it solves your problem it might be a good idea to
consider disabling the DNS Client service. The service
isn't necessary on XP workstations unless they're
participating in a Win2k or later domain.

What happens is when a DNS server takes too long to
respond the DNS Client service removes it from the list
of available DNS servers - and if all of them are a
little slow eventually you don't have any DNS servers
left :)
