I know there must be an answer to this somewhere, but I just can't frame a
search to find it.

When I do a repair installation of 2000, the system creates a new user
folder by the name of "username.systemname" (i.e. bob.BOBSCOMPUTER). Bob's
original desktop, settings, etc, are in the "bob" folder and the new folder
is a clean install.

How do I a) re-point Bob's account to his own folder and b) prevent this
from happening in the future.

Thanks

A repair install is almost a clean install as it a bit more involved than an "upgrade" over itself. If you can boot into Windows or
Safe Mode and run an upgrade install to first try to get the OS running again, the settings should not be messed with. I know of
know way during the repair install to accomplish what you want. When I do this on my own machine, I just copy all the files from
one docs and stgs folder to the new one. I understand that I'll be reinstalling most if not all apps when I do a repair install.
If you are charging Bob to repair, is it an issue? If not, copy the docs and stgs over, hand Bob his CD's and have at it.
