losing connection... ?

Hi

I have really strange thing goin on my comp and can't find an answer
anywhere.

Well, at regular intervals about 2.5h my web browser, skype, outlook express
anything which uses internet connection fails - stop working, but still it
shows me that I'm connected to the internet. I also share my internet
connection with my secondary comp in the other room and there everything
works fine. So, I think there is problem only with my computer maybe
something with the system - win2k. It only helps restart the computer (it
doesn't help if I just reconnect the internet connection or logout my
profile). Anybody has got any idea what's going on? (i checked for viruses
with NA2005 - none).

PS It slowly drives me crazy and finally I'll reinstall my whole system. I
try to avoid this because it takes to much time. So, I'll be very grateful
if anyone can help me to solve this problem (i don't know what could cause
this because I didn't do anything, just standard usage of the comp).
 
Checking for viruses is fine, but it would most likely be caused by spyware
of adware that may not be detected by that product. Use Ad-aware
(www.lavasoftUSA.com) or Spybot S&D.
 
I have had the same problem and it was just the network cable

I checked with both anti-spyware programs and it didn't help me to solve the
problem with my internet. There is something going on my system. I don't
think so that there is any problem with network cable (as sthompson said)
because as I said earlier everything works fine on my secondary comp. So,
any other suggestions?

Ok.

I don't
think so that there is any problem with network cable (as sthompson said)
because as I said earlier everything works fine on my secondary comp. So,
any other suggestions?

That doens't mean it couldn't be the cable,...or the Nic,... or the
Switch/Hub port.

Then I don't know which cable because there're only 2 cables: 1st from the
rooter (usb cable- the internet) goes to my computer, 2nd connects two
computers with only two network cards (no switch/hub). When internet fails
on my computer, the other comp still has it, so the local connection works
fine and the internet also must be fine because the other comp also has it.
 
I'm still leaning to the spyware issue anyway.

I checked for viruses a couple days ago (with updated viruses def. for that
time) and didn't find anyone but today I updated my viruses definitions
again and found one. It seems that the problem with my internet it's gone.
I'm already connected for 8h and didn't have to restart my comp !!:)
