Losing changes to documents

I have a user that is using Windows XP Professional (with the latest updates)
that is losing data from documents he is working on. For example, in Visio
2007 Pro, he will be making some changes to a drawing and while making the
change, he will lose whatever work he has done since the last backup. The
behavior is similar to pressing the CTRL-Z keys. This seems to go on across
applications (not just MS Office products). The quick fix it to have him save
every few minutes and auto-save. However, this is causing frustration and we
cannot determine what may be causing it.

If anyone has information or can point me in the right direction, it would
be appreciated. Thank you.

These are local documents. I believe it is related to resources on his
machine but cannot pin down to which one may be taking more than it's share.

Can't think of any cause at the moment. It is more usual to experience this
kind of thing with faulty LAN connections. Don't think I've ever seen it with
local docs.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

As for resource usage, I'm inclined to think that's unlikely.
