Hi,

I am running Windows XP home on a laptop with a cabel
modem, which is plugged into a router, so I can share my
connectin with another computer. Anyway, many times I
will leave my computer on overnight, because I don't like
starting up every morning, but when I leave it on the
computer loses its' connection after sometime and I have
to restart to get the connection. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Does the windows event log give you any clues
(Start>Run>Eventvwr).

Do you still have an I.P address and can you ping anything
(e.g. from a command prompt type 'ping www.microsoft.com' )

Try going into Device Manager and get properties of your
network adapter card, go to the Power Management tab and
ensure Windows is not allowed to turn power off.

Regards,

Tim

Check your power saving options. Some LAN cards do not recover well when
the computer goes into hybernation or suspend mode.

Derek,
I have just recently been dealing with a very similar
problem. We run Windows XP on our home desktop with
internet coming through a Verizon DSL modem and a Linksys
router. We haven't completely solved our problem yet,
but we have had suggestions that our lease on our IP
address is not being automatically renewed. You can
check your lease information by opening the Command
window and entering
ipconfig /all
this will give you times that your lease was last
obtained and when it expires. We tried taking our router
out of the loop and taking the signal directly from the
modem. With this configuration, the lease is being
automatically renewed. I think my next step is to tak to
Verizon about lease renewals for a customer that uses a
router. Hope this is of some help to you. RC Henkel

RC Henkel,
I was looking at my router manufacture's website and I
found out that the lease time will expire unless you set
it to automatically renew, so check your settings within
your router. Derek
