Hello.

I am consistently losing my dial-up connection. It
happens while I am surfing, but it will always happen
when I go to the windows update site and scan for
updates. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

.
Norton's Anti-Virus 2004 has a "Keep Connection Alive"
setting which does a good job of maintaining dial-up
connections.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit is with these

Thank you for the help. I think I left out some
important information in my original post. I am using
Windows XP Home sp1 (mostly patched) and IE6 sp1. I
can't say for sure, but it sounds like the modem just
hangs up. Immediately after hanging up, the connect box
appears.

I was having the same problem under windows 98, but
recently upgraded, and I am still seeing the same
problems. I really don't think it is phone line quality
because it is somewhat predictable, and I would expect
line quality to be unpredictable.

Thanks.
Ben
