I recently managed to uninstall LOP (live online portal)
spyware from my computer, which a meddling member of my
family infected me with. After deleting it, I restarted
my system, only to find that now, the moment I press any
key on the login screen (xp) it freezes completely, so I
am effectively locked out of windows.
I have tried everything and have too many important files
to reformat/install windows again.
Help!
(please reply to email adress if poss)

I haven't seen LOP removal hose a computer before but there are lots of
other malwares that can disable a computer when improperly removed by an
automated tool. The most common is corruption of the TCP/IP stack, which
is easily fixed in XP SP2.

Try booting to safe mode. Press F8 repeatedly after the BIOS screen just
as the XP boot screen appears. Choose safe mode without networking. If
that doesn't work and you have SP2 installed, you have a new option on
the F8 screen to disable automatic rebooting. Do this and write down the
STOP error code. You can look up these error codes at www.aumha.org to
see what device is causing the failure.
