Loosing network connection

I have two computers networked through a router. After
both are rebooted the system works OK for 45 minutes then
the connection is lost and the only thing I can do is
rebot both computers.
 
Are these wired conections or wireless connections? When you "lose" the
network connection - do you get a "network cable unplugged" message or the
two machines just stop communicating to each other? Have you tried to ping
from one machine to another? ping to the router? Changed network cables?
