Loosing desktop settings (open folders) in between logins ?

Sassan

I just installed a couple of apps on my win2k (pro) system
(as administrator) and since then, I keep losing my
desktop settings (open folders that I carefully arrange
for ease of access) whenever I restart and login my system.

Would appreciate any suggestion as to where these settings
are supposed to be preserved and how to change back to the
original (persistent desktop) default.

Have you ran a virus check lately, and is it up to date. Did you also check
the apps for viruses before installing??

Yes; I do run NAV regularly and the apps I installed are
from the original CD's. As best as I can tell, this
seems like windows does not correctly write the state
of the desktop in the user profile and, true to form, does
not report any error either. Would you happen to know
where the state of the desktop is supposed to be preserved
so that I can check on the write permission for the
folder ? I have searched all available documents on
whether this has to do with the "default" setting for part
of the user profile or what causes this to be triggered (I
have reinstalled my entire system 3 times to get rid of
this and it keeps poping back !)

Thanks much for the followup !
