Dominic

please help.

i seem to be loosing attachments sent using MO SR1. how
can this be sorted out?

thanks

I'm not Dominic, but I think I have a similar problem: I
recently upgraded from Outlook 97 to Outlook 2000 (don't
ask!). I thought it was working, but now I can't send any
attachments. I can attach files to my outgoing messages
and the saved sent messages retain the attachments. None
of my intended recipients gets any attachments. I did
send a message to myself inadvertently (by replying to all)
and I got the attachment!

I'm using a local ISP and have a virtual mailbox on their
server, as does everyone else in my company. They don't
get attachments from me.

I did send a test message with attachment to my personal e-
mail address with the same ISP, and I used their webmail
facility to check my messages; the attachment was there
but it was not the PDF I sent; the attachment filename
was "winmail.dat". I opened it in WordPad and it
appeared to be the PDF file data with an additional header.

Recently the ISP announced they are making some changes to
their mailservers, which require some config changes to
customer mail browser account setup, which I did.

I think this is an ISP issue, but I would like to do my
homework before I ask the teacher for help. Any thoughts?

Thanks. Randy

Are you sending to non-Outlook users in Rich text format? That's the usual
cause. Change your mail format (Tools-Options-Mail format) to either plain
text (preferred) or HTML and see if that cures it.

nice shootin', rifleman! I had RTF as my default message
format. I switched it to HTML and sent an attachment to
my personal account, went to my ISP's webmail site, and
opened the attached document (a .DOC file)!

Any idea *why* RTF doesn't permit the attachment to send?
maybe documents can't be embedded in RTF. One would like
to think Microsoft would know about & tell you about this
quirky behavior beforehand. I couldn't find anything on
it in their help or support info.

Thanks muuch!

RTF is OK if its sent Outlook to Outlook as Outlook is the only app that
will read RTF! Other email clients (including OE ) can't read the format.
Why? No idea!

thanks for the information! I'm glad someone knows
what's going on, if not why! -- Randy
