I want to configure my standalone PC in such a way that my
PC should assume that it's on a network,my motive of doing
so is that I want to install a Software called Virtual PC
in which we can run another OS (2000,98,linux etc)for
eg:if i am working on a 2000 server desktop I can start
2000 Professional,i want to ping the 2000 Professional
from the 2000 Server desktop with out using the loop back
address, when i contacted some people belonging to network
field they said to use a loop back connector,so when i
went to buy one the shop keeper asked me the configuration
for the loop back connector,on one side the connector has
a DB-9 connector which has to be configured for loop
backing and the other side has a RJ-45 connector which
will be connected to the network card of my pc.if somebody
has the solution please mail me at (e-mail address removed) am
in desparate need.
thank you

I wonder who's kidding, but anyway:
VirtualPC emulates the network using two virtual devices - MS loopback
adapter and DEC/Intel 21104a adapter; Thus, any emulated packet is going
through loopback IP by design and no packet leaves a standalone machine when
real and virtual OSs interoperate. Loopback connector or similar hardware
could emulate various network environment, but how it could help to work
with plain VirtualPC is not quite clear.
