Pardon me if the terms I use are not as technical as they could be but
I am not a real "techie". We (two seperate PCs) are experiencing a new
problem in logging to our corporate domain controller. After the
username and password are entered and the domain selected it can be as
long as 30 minutes before the active desktop appears. There is a very
minor amount of disk activity during that time. We had our network
group remotely "look" at the machine during this delay and they
discovered that stopping the process "userinit.exe" caused the machine
to come up immediately. The machines have been completely scanned for
viruses with negative results. Other information that may be helpful -
the same username/passworword combination works fine on other machines
- the problem is currently only on two machines out of a dozen or so
at this location.

Anything light that anyone could shed on this problem would be very
welcome.

There are many factors to check. For example, the DNS configuration is very important, because the clients can use this to find out the domain controllers. So, the AD structure is important, if there is a site created in "Active Directory Sites and Services", one subnet mask, etc....

I would try deleting and re-creating the profile after the other two
excellent suggestions.
