Lookup in Access - how do I go to new record if it doesn't exist?

I have a lookup field in an Access form. The problem is that when I look up
a job number in the lookup field and it doesn't exist, it goes to the next
record. I need it to go to a new record.

Can you clarify, please. Lookup Fields only exists for tables. In fact,
there really are no fields on a form. I know Access documentation sometimes
refers to them as fields, but that is incorrect. They are controls.
Usually, when someone says field, they mean text box.

Anyway, how are you doning the lookup? Please provide some details.

Your lookup field from the Table under the 'Lookup' tab in the 'Display
Control'
is it a Combo Box, List Box or Text Box?

My best guess is a List Box. This will bring you to the existing record.
Change your 'lookup field' of the control to a Combo Box from your form.

Creating a lookup of a column in a Table is a short cut method by just
draging the Field List item on to the form.

For inserting a new record, i suggest you use Wizard to create a button
to move to a new record.
