I have a Compaq AMD-K7 Processor, 698 MHz and 128 MB of RAM. I have performed the disk cleanup, defrag, virus scan and adware/spyware removal after recently upgrading to Windows XP Professional. What would be the next step to improve my performance? Increase RAM? Looking for help. Thanks.

I second that get more ram 512 as a minimum makes a big difference.

Your ram is way to low..I would suggest 512..XP can not run at all very
good on 128

yes more RAM you need 3 gigs, but first you need a cool
ws-303-kb-795 motherboard,it's bitchen,got to get a new
AMD 3400 3.0 gig.Can pick it up at computergeeks.com for
around $1200 bucks,but then you'll have a cool
computer.after that I'd get a new power suply,and a clear
see through tower, then get this cool 160 gig h/d,and a
cool dvd reader/burner.bout another 2 grand,thats
$2000,then put that pro on that and it will smoke cuz
you'll have changed everything.

Really run with that huh,try a new motherboard, faster
procesore, you'll probably need new Ram with that
change, get a motherboard that runs DDR RAM then your 128
would run at speeds = 2 256,256 is ok,runs like 512.You
can get stuff like that at
http://www.price101.com/ you can get it for less than
a grand ,check http://www.price101.com/smoreinfo.asp?

enter then restart your computer

don't do that, sounds like both of you are idiots

Ignoring unhelpful prats like most who answered you; if a
box upgrade isn't an option, yes, more RAM, and then
disable some of the GUI enhancements. (Control
Panel/performance and maintenance/adjustvisual effects)

Your system still won't perform as well as a W2K machine,
but aside from a lengthy boot time, you will be able to do
most basic business tasks OK. Just don't try to run
latest super-dooper graphics intensive games etc.
