You need to check the device manufacturer's website, their tech support or a
palm related newsgroup.

I have winxp pro and my CPU/Ram are: p4 2.4GHz 256MB
I need a driver to support the USB connection from my palm hand held
to my pc.
the Hotsync app provided by the Palm CD only offers me to choose
between COM1 and COM3. no USB option.
Microsoft ActiveSync does show the USB availability but does not
detect the cradle with the palm in it. installing the AvantGO addition to
ActiveSync didn't help either.
re-installing Palm desktop after logging off and relogging as
administrator did not provide the USB option to choose either.
I need a USB driver for the palm m515 I have because so-far I can
only use it as stand alone or to recharge the battery - no synchronization
or installation possible in it.
thank you

I hate to disapoint you but i do have the same model and it has the usb
driver. are you using an usb cradle? do you have all latest versions of
software? you'll find everything you need @ www.palmone.com

Good luck

right click on your hotsync icon in the system tray. Make sure it has a
check mark beside it. It is the first in the list when you right click on
the hotsync icon.

I did. they suggested I log in as administrator and re-install the app
because (they said) in win xp only an administrator can configure/add/change
com ports. so I did and tried it as admin. unfortunately after installation
of Palm Desktop I succeeded neither seeing a USB option to choose in the app
nor adding a com pert to emulate it to USB.

Microsoft ActiveSync only works with windows CE. Check the bios on your
computer to see that the usb ports are enable. last go to palmone.com and
download the usb driver for windows. what version of palm desktop you have?
mine is 4.1.

I received the palm as a gift from the USA. the package contains a USB cable
cradle that has a second cable for recharging the battery. it also contains
a CD to install the Palm desktop which was supposed to supply me with the
option to select a USB connection to synchronize with Hotsync. (in despair,
I also tried Microsoft ActiveSync with AvantGo, and despite the fact that I
_did_ get the USB connection "available", ActiveSync did NOT manage to
establish such a connection).
believe me, I am doing a great effort to find a way to communicate with my
new palm including newsgroups, palm support web site and driver web sites.
until now I had no success.

it has a check mark next to "local". when I go to "setup" and configure the
"local" communication port I am only given the choice between COM1 and COM3.
there is no USB option to choose. BTW- device manager tells me all USB
connections work fine. the only exception is when I press the hotsync button
in the cradle, a new USB device appears with code 28 and the following error
text: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) To reinstall
the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver."
I am looking for this driver to install because the winXP wizard only looks
for *.inf files (on the palm CD) and the only one there is autorun.inf.....

I have an M515 that has been able to hotsync with its supplied USB cradle on
one computer and a purchased USB cable that plugs into the bottom of the
M515 without problem using the software that came with it. Apparently
either you did not follow the instructions on setting up the software/USB
port properly or you are having a device malfunction.

Totally remove all Palm software and edit the registry to find and remove
all traces of PALM in it. Reboot the computer. Place the CD that came with
the Palm device in the drive and reinstall Palm Desktop 4.0 or 4.1. (Palm
Desktop 5 won't work with this device.) Once the software is installed plug
in your USB cable to the computer (not a hub) and you should be in business.

Before you install it, make sure you remove all references to Palm as I
stated before and good luck...

I think that you are the one who is about to SAVE me because I read in your
reply to me that you mentioned to re-install Palm Desktop 4.0 or 4.1 at the
end of the process. so I took that as a hint to check the version of the
Palm Desktop I was given with the CD that came in the hand held box. the
version is 3.0.something. now I am downloading version 4.1 from download.com
and I am quite hopeful that it will solve my non-existent USB option to
choose for the connection method.
thank you again!
Eli
