Is there freeware similiar to:
Pest Patrol
Trojan Hunter
The Cleaner

Thank You
There arent many free anti trojan programmes that i know of , that are
1.still supported and updated
2.have a background active scanner.
There are however a few free on demand trojan scanners like a2 squared
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
bitdefender (free version) is supposedly ok at trojan detection too , but
again no background active scanner. Most people without a dedicated anti
trojan and using a free AV would use something like spybots teatimer which
would alert (though not clean) to many trojans writing to registry or system
folders. If you like me try many programmes, and download a lot , you may
want to purchase an anti trojan. From experience and a registerd owner of
tds3,trojanhunter and boclean ,i would recommend boclean. After initial
payment updates are free (not yearly subscriptions )like some av , and its
updated practiaclly every day.It is a set it and forget it anti trojan
though with currently no scanning gui.It also (from my experience )seem to
be ahead of tds3 and trojan hunter in current trojans, and has saved my bacon
more than once, where my free av (avast) and tds3 and trojan hunter did not
detect the trojan initially.Alas though as i said at the beginning , i dont
know of any free ATs that can compare to these.

HA!!

If you find one, let me know! :)

The best I have found is A² (A Squared)

Then a big drop off to a web-based scanner, then SwatIt. Ack!

How do these differ from the likes of Ad-Aware and Spybot? I have an
interest in this topic as I can't seem to keep a porn web page from popping
up on my machine at random times. Ad-Aware and Spybot don't seem to be
able to catch it. I thought I was well protected, but if there's an area I
need to cover, I want to take steps.

Sometimes BHODemon will list a BHO that's causing the popup and can kill it.

If you get the popup while your web browser is running, then a browser shell
like MyIE2, Slim, etc., or using Mozilla may kill it. If it pops up all the
time, an updated HOSTS file may kill it.

If all else fails, a popup killer may have to be used. I don't have any
recommendations on a popup killer, since I have never used one except built
in to a browser.

Hey, I'm a fine one to be giving advice on popups!. It took me 4 hours to
kill a popup on an old lady's computer this morning. :\

In general ad-aware and spybot are more geared towards handling adware that
creates popups&adverts, hijackers your homepage/search engines and dialers.
I believe Ssme of these are considered trojans some are not (activex
driveby downloads that automatically install when visiting a site for
example if you are unpatched and/or have low securit settings).

"A Trojan horse or Trojan is a computer program which claims to be
innocuous but instead has a malicious effect — one which the programmer (or
packager, or distributor) intended and the user didn't expect."

In other words, if something pretends to be X and you install it thinking
that it is X, but it's actually something else with a malicious effect, you
have a trojan. Beyond that a trojan can do many different things, from
producing popups (adware), transmitting info on your browsing habits,
logging your key strokes (keg loggers), even allowing hackers to control
your computer remotely (backdoors).

A2 Squared, Ewido and Payware like TDS-3 ,trojan hunter are more geared
towards trojans usually classed as backdoors/rootkits/remote admin programs
(programs that allow hackers to gain control of your system) and to some
extent keyloggers.

Spybot and Ad-aware do detect some keyloggers and a few backdoors and many
malware are now hybrids in terms of function but in general these 2 don't
offer that much protection against these malware. They are excellent
however against ad-ware/homepagehijackers/dialers/ practically any malware
that works through IE, via BHOS&toolbars

That might work, though some adware don't work through BHOs, but simply run
processes on your computer.

The best way would be to run Ad-aware,spybot. They are not perfect, and can
miss things, so you might want to try CWShredder and if that fails, a HJT
log analysis by a expert will help.

The second and third methods might work, but it's better to cure the root
problem by removing the software causing the popups.
