Hello...

I'm looking for an inexpensive program that will convert .asf files to .wav
files so that I can embed them.

I have tried AsfTools v3.1 but I am running into a codec issue. The
converted sounds will not play in Windows Media Player. WMP Error message:
"ClassFactory cannot supply requested class."

Recommendations?

Thank you,
Bob Ostwald

Download GOLDWAVE, I am uncertain how it handles .asf files, but it is a
very robust shareware app I have used many times when out of the office (ie.
downloaded at clients office, installed and used). Here is the link:

Sorry to say it doesn't look like it does:
"Supported file formats (wav, mp3, ogg, aiff, au, vox, mat, snd, voc, wma,
raw binary data, text data)"

Do a google search on Convert ASF to WAV
Good idea. FYI, AsfTools 3.1 is what I have tried so far.

Have you tried Windows Media Encoder? (Free download from MS)

Sheesh! I didn't even think of the obvious one. Must have been too obvious
for my pea brain.

Have you tried Windows Media Encoder?

Ah. No. Is it related to Windows Media Player v.9P WMP 9 is the only file
recommended by Windows Update that I have continually rejected. Something to
do with what it reports to MS, I believe. I need to do my homework and
understand this better.

There are two versions:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...dc-e509-4bc2-ae47-507856f9ddc3&DisplayLang=en
is version 7.1 (Windows 98, ME, 2000, NT)
and
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&DisplayLang=en
is version 9 (requires Windows 2000 or XP)

It's not really tied to Windows Media Player. There are tons of things you
can do with it, including capturing a PowerPoint presentation as WMV or
other formats. There's good documentation on it, which you'll find if you
do a search on the Microsoft site.
