Looking for laser printer

I need to buy my first economy priced laser printer for work. I have
considered the HP1200 for $200, and at least one Samsung as well.

The problem with the HP 1200 is the feedback I've heard about driver
problems and poor lifetime. Samsung allegedly is not the easiest printer to
get toner for.

Can anyone recommend a decent printer for $150-$300 that has a proven
reputation for longevity and performance. I'm not nitpicky about meager
printing quality differences, I just need overall dependability. Oh
yeah...I'll be using legal sized paper almost exclusively.

Thanks

Why doen't you look at USED full size lasers like the HP 4000 series?
Any printer for $200 will cost you one way or another. The HP 2000
series is a little more that $300 but is a little better duty cycle
than the 1200 series

Check out the Samsung 2152W:

At $390, this printer is a bit more expensive than the range you gave, but I
thought you might find it of interest anyway. Compare the features and
specs to anything else you've looked at, and I think you'll find to be a
better value. As far as toner, all you really need is one local source
(convenience) and one online source (value), right? As for your specific
requirements, this printer will handle 500 legal-sized pages in its standard
paper tray. It might save you the difference in cost in just paper, toner,
and power consumption because of its duplexing, economy-toner, and power
saving modes. The 1.6cent cost/page is relatively low too at $130 for an
8000 page cartridge.

I haven't found much self-refill information on this Samsung toner
cartridge, partly because the printer is still relatively new and unknown,
but also perhaps because the cartridge is "chipped" with ID and usage info
from what I understand. As soon as my first cart runs low, I'll be getting
some replacement toner inside of it, one way or another, and then I'll see
if I can hack or otherwise get it to conform to my will to refill it. <sly
grin>

(I'm not associated with CDW or Samsung, except as a customer).

I second the recommendation that you look to the used market. There is a
ton of off-lease office grade heavy duty equipment out there right now.

HP Laser Jet 4 & 5 models are great. I have three Lexmark Optra S printers
that have been fantastic for me. Plus - accessories & toner are plentiful
for machines of this quality level.

Just be careful what you buy. Ask questions about page count, service
history, and warranty. Then take hom ( or have delivered ) your next
workhorse printer.
