Hi, any recommendation for a simple HTML editor with syntax
highlighting? Thanks in advance!

I really like Crimson Editor these days for html as well as php, perl,
javascripts, host files, and so on. From their homepage...

"This program is not only fast in loading time, but also small in size (so
small that it can be copied in one floppy disk). While it can serve as a
good replacement for Notepad, it also offers many powerful features for
programming languages such as HTML, C/C++, Perl and Java. Syntax
Highlighting for HTML, C/C++, Perl, Java, Matlab and LaTeX. Also, it can be
extended for other programming languages based on custom syntax files. Other
features include undo/redo, user tools, macros, spell checker and more."

theres a new simple one called less-than-slash (lts) which is good
for xhtml - highlighting, shortcuts, completion etc.

topstyle lite does html, php etc now and cannot be beaten for
stylesheets

People have mentioned crimson for a more "programmer" approach and i
agree, it is good. Context is also good programmers editor which also
does html etc. and has compare - i have both on my system.
http://www.fixedsys.com/context

then there are classics like notetab, editpad which have a free lite
version...

Since when? I have v. 3.10 Lite, and that doesn't do html, php etc.,
neither now nor in the future and it didn't in the past either, only
css. I agree it can't be beaten for editing stylesheets.

Unless you want it feature rich, go with NS 4.x (or even NS 7.x) otherwise
check out the links others have posted (personally I prefer NS 4.x as it is
something I've been using for awhile).

COuld be my mistake, as I have the paid for version.

The default file filter is set to css but in the pro version you can
change it and open any html file, preview it at the bottom etc.
It is possible that the free version doesnt have this. My apologies.

The recent tudogs newsletter recommended AceHTML, but I don't know any
more than that about it. Go to <http://freeware.acehtml.com>
[There's also a more featured "pro" version that's not freeware.]

Either they're insane or they have been bribed.

AceHTML5

Keys added: 764

It took InCtrl5 about 1 1/2 h to register all the changes to the
registry. I call it diarrhoea-ware, you may call it crapware.

I was just thinking that this evening, having read some of the
earlier comments on this. ("Crapware" being the family oriented
version of my original thought "sh*tware". :)

As a matter of interest, how do those figures you've quoted compare
with those for well-behaved programs? I'm ignorant of these things,
but curious to know more.

Thanks for your time.

Phred wanted some information.

Fair enough.

AceHTML5:

Not necessarily well-behaved but better behaved than AceHTML:

Stone's Webwriter 3.5:

(I am eagerly awaiting the English translation of v. 4.0)

CSE Lite 3.5:

Thanks for the response, Frank.
It would appear that, while there is a fair range in these attributes,
AceHTML5 is something of an outlier! ;-)
