We have a small office and I want to be able to put a couple of
hundred 30 - 50 page monthly reports on a website as pdf files. Can
someone recomend a resource for comparing scanners? What I've foudn is
the Zerox docuMate 252 50 ppm and $1,000 and its' little brother the
250 at $800 I read an articel in the NY Times about scannes that said
the visioneer XP 450 is the same as the smalle Xerox. The double sided
scaning capability of the Big Xerox is something that would get used
but I don't know how much

This is not image scanning only documents the most important is speed
and easy ot use, I want to drop the document in the hopper press a
button, be prompter for a file name and then get my pdf file froma
designated drive/folder

thanks

there was recently some very lengthy threads similar to what you have in
mind.
Although the thread was not a direct inquiry for hardware comparisons, the
threads contain many issues for you to consider before undertaking.
(Long link may be broken requiring copying and pasting.)

The Fujitsu ScanSnap 510 exactly does this. It outputs either numbered
JPG images or a PDF document with one JPG image per page. JPG
compression is done in the scanner hardware.

The scanner is fast and can scan both sides of a sheet at once.

The JPG compression and the fact that it can only scan separate pages
without any damage disqualifies it for anything but plain archieving,
but that is exactly what you want.
