"Help" says to use the "lock file" under tools. There's no "lock: there. I
looked under every puldown, still no way to lock my file. Am I mising
something? How do I lock a file?

Thanks in advance!
Phil

Phil,
It has been a while since I used PPT 2000.
But maybe you should look for tools in the save as dialog. As far as I can
remember you can lock it there, but I do not think you can password protect
it.
If I am wrong someone will correct me.

Thanks. From what I've been able to learn on my own, in PPT 2000 there is no
locking ability whatsoever. To protect a document, you must save/convert it
to a pdf file and use the privacy features available there instead, or export
it to a M$Word document and use the lock there. Kinda defeats the whole
purpose of making the presentation in PPT to begin with doesn't it?

Perhaps so, if your entire purpose revolves around distributing uneditable files
(a common requirement but by no means one that applies to everyone).

But if PDF works for you, then you have to produce the content in some app or
other, not Acrobat, so if PPT is the easiest, that's what you use.

How critical is your "no copy" requirement? A determined user can make a copy
of nearly anything you let them display on screen. The only really secure
presentation is the one you don't let me see at all <g>
