I'm looking for a simple way to to create written documents in
DOS (3.3). The software would need to exist and run off a
single stiffy disk, since the machine has no HDD to install it on.

What I have is something called "Electric Desk", but that diskette
is buggered. Possibly someone knows where I can find a copy
of that ...?

TIA

What about an abandonware version of Wordperfect?

I used to use Qedit, now renamed and at:

Use Copy Con.

Do a google search for AEDIT to TED or something like that. think COX has
something on his DOS website IIRC but have not been there in a while. maybe
someone can provide an active link (don't have it on me)

Those old versions of Wordperfect were a bitch to use. You had to
know a lot of obscure key commands. What would be better for this
guy is a nice up to date DOS word processor with a GUI and menu
bars that stay in place.

If it's now called "Semware Editor", they've gone shareware.

Thanks to you and eveyone else for their input.

I have not yet managed to locate an abandonware copy of WP,
but VDE works just fine.

This DOS3.3 doesn't have copycon and I'm not sure whether it should.
The computer is a Toshiba T1000SE which doesn't seem to have a
HDD and has it's DOS on a 1mb RAMcard .... I think.

See if you can locate TimeWorks Word Writer PC. I believe it is
abandonware. It runs off one floppy and does a respectable job. It
includes a good dictionary and lots of handy functions-- even has a gui of
sorts which, as I recall, allows use with your mouse. I used it on DOS 3.3
back when. juzme

DOS surely has "copy con", it is a DOS command which orders the PC to
copy data that was written on the keyboard to a file. You can use it to
write text files if your editor is missing. It is /not/ a word
processor, it is not even a text editor...

I'd still be using this if it worked with Win32. I started using it
under DOS 6.0, I'm not sure what the differences are from 3.3 to 6.0.
I don't know the capacity of a (5.25"?) stiff disk either. Some files
can be deleted though, such as the help files and doc files.

NE v3.00b 367,919 bytes:

Ctrl-K this, Ctrl-K that... yea, it was a pain. But text formatting was cool
in its day.

I was joking really. I used to use Copy Con to make and edit small batch
files and to edit the config.sys file, but it's torture to use as an editor.
