Looking for an HTTP tracer diagnostic tool

I don't want to run a web server or HTTP proxy. The purpose is not to
relay or handle multiple user connections. I want to see the HTTP
datastream between my browser and to whomever I connect. So I'm looking
for an inline HTTP tracer utility that can show me the raw data, the
HTTP headers, the payload, submit data, etc. This is for my own
curiousity and also when I have problems connecting to some web sites to
get a handle on what is really happening. Obviously something free
would be appreciated but it would need to non-crippled and non-expiring.

That was the one I already had installed from a long time ago (maybe 2
years, or more). I had forgotten all about it until wandering through
my Programming start group menu. However, it obviously has expired past
its trial period and won't run. When I tried to install again, got the
same expiration messages. All I can recall from using the last time was
that it was a bit flaky and it was to match up the records, but that's
just a recollection.

I've been hunting around and haven't found a freebie HTTP tracer utility
(that sits merely as a proxy between my browser and the web site). So
HTTP Tracer might be it. Like you said, it is cheap. However, when I
try to go to the publisher's web site, it is unreachable. Either they
don't exist anymore or have moved and didn't update the information at
various download sites. I visited www.download.com; their URL link to
the publisher's web site is:

javascript:window.open('http://dw.com.com/redir?edId=3&destUrl=http:%2
F%2Fwww.concentric.net%2F%7ESstmail%2F&lop=dir&oId=3050-20-4759519&siteI
d=4&ontId=20','Form','width=800,height=600,top=0,left=0,toolbar=yes,loca
tion=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=yes,scrollbars=yes,resizable=ye
s');void(0).

Going to http://www.concentric.net shows an ISP's web site. Going to
http://www.concentric.net/~Sstmail (also tried ~sstmail which returns
"page not found", so this author no longer hosts his/her web site there.
So I tried to go to
So I couldn't buy it even if I wanted to.

Looks like Superior Software Tools has become LazyDog Utilities
(http://www.lazydogutilities.com/) and that's where to find HTTP Tracer.
I did a Google search on the company name to find them under their new
company name. Shows you just how often C/Net updates their download
site. The old version available for download from places like
download.com are back at version 1.5. HTTP Tracer is now up to version
3.0.4.
