Looking for a video player that can...

....play parts of the video as specified by the user via timecodes.

For example, let's say I have a 60-minute MPG, and I want to watch only two
parts of it: 20-22 minutes in, and 40-42 minutes in. I'd like the player to
be able to seek to those starting points and play up to the out points. Has
anyone heard of any apps like this, or do I have to code my own? :)

(And no, I can't crop the videos as I need them in their entirety, and I don't
want to make smaller standalone videos of just those portions, because I have
12 x 60-minute tapes and I want to view only 2-minute grabs from each).

Thanks if you can help! :)

Probably can't be done, unless you cut it up.

It can be done (file-seeking the video) but I just wanted to make sure
I wasn't going to re-invent the wheel before writing an app. :)
the bit in brackets make no sense.

Makes perfect sense to video folk. ;)

No Paul. You talk about MPEGs, then you talk about tapes, mutually
exclusive, you being a clever "video folk" would see that.

You can setup to capture from the tape in segments but you said

????????????????????????????????????????????

What do you really want to do? I think you need to explain a bit more.

If you use a DVD or SVCD you can use chapters without cutting it up!

Typo -- meant to say "MPGs" instead of "tapes". Sorry!

I just want to view only selected portions of my 12 x 60-minute MPGs.
That is, start a video player (PC here, not DVD player) and have it
jump to the selected user-specified portions and play them. Sort of
like jumping to chapters on a DVD, but without using chapters.

Ask in rec.video.desktop about a freeware video programming app called
AviSynth. It should allow you to set parameters for playing a video in
Windows Media Player, VirtualDub, and other video apps.
