Hi,

I`m looking for a silent (<30dB) psu can anybody recommend one.

I see Dabs have dabs value 400w silent ones for £17.50, anybody tried these?
Seems a big difference compared the the Quiet PC 350w at £58.75.

I may need two, one for my main PC a AMD2400+ full tower and for a
games/general use AMD 1700+.

My current system is too noisy, the local airport is complaining about the
noise :-)

Thanks,

Des.

Interest in silent running seems to grow as the cooling
needs of state-of-the-PC-art hardware grows. I would
guess, therefore, that the interest in silent running is tied
to use of advanced systems, not to age directly, although
age may have some correlation with gaming systems.

Well I`m between 30 and 40 if you must know. The problem is one computer is
in the bedroom and is on almost 24/7, the other is used in the living room
and it can be quite annoying when trying to watch something( complaints from
others in the house).

Hope your curiosity is satisfied.

BTW thanks for the replies everyone.

ahh the bedroom computer,.....I asked because I have been getting asked about 'quiet' stuff since my son has been in college...dorm
situations....most posters don't explain why they want quiet ...I find it strange as my computer room is filled with every noise
making thing you can think of (fish tanks, ceiling fan, TV, a/c vent >(which is louder than my P4 and 1 case fan setup). I was
wondering if it was a concentration thing,,,or what was the motivation. BTW 45 here...case there is a -i'll tell you mine if you
tell me yours- hold outs ;^)

OK you`ve embarressed me into admitting I`m 35.

I really need a quiet pc because I can`t hear my AC/DC playing on the HIFI.

My guess is the silent thing is more important to older fuddy
duddies.... like me...

30 to 40 age range puts you young enough to build your own 'puter yet
old enough to appreciate silence and want to blow cash on the
finest...

ok now turn down that damn radio already... I can't hear myself think!

Get a Zalman - end of story.

Or a Fortron - and they're cheaper. Can't hear mine at all. Best psu I
ever had..

Actually, I think it's a rather intriguing point. Seems to me I got more
neurotic about irritations like noise since I left the big 4-0 behind!

Oh, and I no longer have the slightest interest in 15" laptop screens
with 1400x1050 etc resolutions. Please just gimme good old 1024x768 and
no eyestrain.....

Hehe... since I've been around computers since the early 80s, and I'm
not alone, I can't help wondering whether we'll see oems beginning to
have an eye for the 'grey enthusiasts' market growing steadily older!!

Regards

Caroline
