Our shop has grown significantly in the last six months and we need to
get our design department a new printer. Currently all proofs are
printed on either an HP4000 or one of our production copiers (Canon IR
9070's and Xerox Doc 12's). we are looking for a black and white laser
printer with the following minimum requirements

sheet size of at least 11"X17" (bigger prefered for bleeds)
Networkable
PC and Mac compatible (OS 10 minimum OS 9 would be nice)
Postscipt capable

This is only for comps so while screen quality is nice it's not an
overriding factor.

We have not considered inkjets seriously because of consumable costs
and an expectation that we will be printing a lot of sheets. Color is
not important because we have other methods for color proofing. However
if a color printer that meets our requirements is in the same price
range as a B&W we are all for it.

Whats wrong with the ImageRunner for B&W proofs?

Kyocera FS-9520DN could be good place to start (lower models in the 9xxx
range would also be possibilities).

Other options could include the Ricoh Aficio AP610N.

If you're happy with the current Canon, you could look at the iRC2xxx or
3xxx which would add in some colour options.

The only proble with the IR's for proofs is they are ebing utilized
more for production everyday so the proofs are interfereing with the
production flow.

Have you considered getting another, albeit a lower model than you
already have?
