Hi friends,

This is my first reqeust here in this wonderful forum. I have recently
downloaded the demo version of "Cardbox for Windows" Database
programme and was impressed by its simplicity and powerful search
capabilities (It can even search within results, upto unlimited
levels). The site for this programme is http://www.cardbox.co.uk

I need help to know, if there is a freeware alternative to Cardbox. I
am especially interested in a simple database application which can do
multiple level searches.

TIA.

http://www.arachnoid.com/dbedit/

DB. It allows you to look at your search results and further refine
things.

Thanks John,

I have downloaded dbedit. It is a very nice application and servers
both my primary needs (simplicity and multiple level searches). I need
to experiment with it a little bit more, though, to learn the ropes :)

However, data entry in dbedit, is not as simple, as it requires me to
click the cells with the mouse, before being able to enter the data. I
miss the simple tab key to move between cells, as in other database
applications and spreadsheets (Though maybe, I am experiencing this
problem, because I am not yet very familier with dbedit).

Is there any other freeware database application, as well, which is
simple, has multiple level searches and can also support images.

Thanks again John for dbedit and TIA, friends for any other such
freeware applications.

from the help file:

To edit this record, you have several choices: (1) point to the record,
press the right mouse button and choose "Edit Selected Record." A dialog
box will appear with the field names as tabs. Pressing the tabs changes
fields. Or (2) you may choose "Display Record in Row Window." This
option opens a new window with just one record on display, a convenient
way to see the entire record. Just click the field you want to edit.

And there is a third way to edit records - just point at the field you
want to edit in the original display, click the mouse, and then click
again. This is called "in-cell editing" and it is often the most
convenient way to edit a record.

I often use a fourth way, create the data elsewhere and paste it into
DbEdit. :)
