I bought a new 120 gig Seagate to replace a 40 gig Maxtor on my P4 2.0a. The
Maxtor works fine but I need more space - who doesn't? I want to make the
new drive a boot drive but don't want to reinstall WinXP Pro. It would take
days!!

I tried Seagate's Diskwizard but it hung on the format/partition stage and
would not go further (after an hour and a half of trying). I used Disk
Management within XP to partition and format the drive and did so, so I know
that the drive is OK. Right now it is a temporary storage drive.

I can use a trial version of Drive Image Pro or CasperXP but neither program
will allow me to resize the drive unless I purchase the program. Is there a
freeware program or other workaround that I might consider?

The crucial thing with all cloning of XP is to unplug the original
drive for the first boot of XP after the clone has been made.
Once its asked for another reboot, you can then plug the
original drive back in again and use that drive for data etc.
