I read that it doesn't support dual channel. I read that in the Newegg
reviews, with no mention of exactly what dual channel it doesn't support.
I've read it does do 4 ide devices, so to me that means it supports dual
channel ide. Is that true?

Jim

Yes I'm new to this group.

Er, no, dual channel means two memory channels working simultaneously to
give increased bandwidth by using two memory controllers. You don't get
double your bandwidth, but the number most people seem to quote is 10 -
15% boost to performance.

Thanks for clearing that up. I haven't been staying informed on all the new
stuff since my machines were running just fine. I had an ECS K7S5A that
died on my Saturday night, fried capacitors. While I was happy with the
board, I'm looking for a new board that will take the faster memory and
cpus.

Scarily similar to myself, my old Gigabyte 7DXR died with a transistor
burnout (it had given me 24/7 work for 21 months though, credit where
it's due), so I replaced it with an A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0 and it is very
fine.

I've just upgraded from a K7S5A to an A7N8X-X and am very happy. The
board is well made, took my XP2400+ and PC2700 no problem, installed
like a dream, Windows 2000 picked up all the new hardware, the onboard
sound and LAN work well, the additional USB ports come in handy, and
there is quite a jump in speed.

I'd say go for it. :)

Remember though the -X is a cut-down version of the Deluxe, so you don't
get dual-channel memory, SATA, Firewire, or the enhanced sound, and the
board comes in a box with the bare essentials - manual, I/O plate, IDE
and floppy cables, CD. If you think you will want or need the
additional features of the Deluxe, you may as well pay the bit extra for
one.
