Hi all,

Last year I bought a Canon MP 110 (Printer/Scanner) and it has worked fine
till recently ...
Last month I was unable to print a document in Black (colour was still
working - and black was NOT cloaked, I checked it -) so I got to the shop I
bought it.
The technician check it and told me it was the head !! and he has to sent
the printer to the main representative in Surathani.
The printer was under 1 year warranty and I have it ONE year and a Week.
So the shop sent it to Surat and told me that the following week it will be
ready...

The next week no news from my printer, the following week still nothing and
now there is already ONE month...
Surathani dealer said to the shop I bought it that they have to order the
head to Bangkok !!!

I can understand 1 or 2 weeks for the trip but now, in more than ONE month
it has largely the time to make the trip by foot ...
Does Canon become so incompetent for the after sale service ?
I usually change my printer every 2 years, I will seriously reconsider my
next buy as well as for the other Canon device I do have.

Regards,
John & Su.

Hi there.

This sort of problem is not unique to Canon or Thailand.

These world wide companies have parts made in all sorts of locations, and
sometimes, someone, somewhere forgets to check the World Wide levels of a
particular spare part, or forgets to place an order for some more of those
parts to be made.

I have previously quoted the case of a Battery Compartment Door for a Canon
Camera. These doors snapped of fairly frequently, and most repairers
carried stocks, so that it was just a 2 minute, while you wait, and nicely
profitable job.

Regular replacement order never arrived. Phone Canon UK - "Out of stock".
Canon Europe HQ - "Out of stock". Canon Japan - "Out of stock"

It turned out that no-one had ordered any, an order had to be placed with
the supplier in USA, the parts made and delivered to Japan, then distributed
to all regional HQ and then to local service and parts departments. Time
taken 5 months from the original Out of Stock advice.

A sort of similar story: I have a Xerox printer with a broken paper
tray, and after much running around from person to person, Xerox won't
supply one because it isn't a consumable item, and everyone else was
stunningly vague about being able to order one. So my solution has been
to get an entire second hand printer from ebay to swap the trays over, I
am currently waiting the poor postman to stagger in with an 80lb
printer!
