Received your question the first time in
I am looking for a good freeware internet speed boosting program. I want to
boot the speed of a 56k modem only getting like 2.8 k a sec.

You fail to mention which OS you use (some such programs only works
with Win9x, not Win2k/XP). I doubt a so called "booster" utility will
help you much (particularly if you use XP/2k). Sounds more like you
need to have a look at your phone lines and hardware setup, including
modem driver and modem init string. Suggest you have a look at the
following sites for help and tips:

Navas 28800-56K Modem FAQ: <http://modemfaq.home.att.net/>
Modemsite: <http://www.modemsite.com/>
56K: <http://www.56k.com/>

For tweaking windows settings (including some Modem and TCP/IP
settings) I suggest : <http://www.xteq.com/products/xset/>

The DL speed for a modem connection cannot really be
significantly improved assuming your phone lines meet
phone co. stds.

My last modem was 33k and I usually peeked around 28k.
My new modem is 56k and it usually peeks around 31k.
For the distance I am from the phone co. switching gear,
I don't expect any more. Modem users are pretty much SOL.
A cable connection at five times the cost is a waste for
me, as I don't DL that much material.

I tried DL accelerators and the very best I found tested my
connection for over 30 minutes with various types of DLs from
their site. The final MTU and other settings provided a 3%
improvement, according to their calculation.

For the duration of Swen, my address is inoperative.
