Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\KID1
Starting test: Connectivity
The host b3a42e5f-1c8b-4871-9753-
53614f65ab38._msdcs.port.com could not
be resolved to an
IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server
name, etc
Although the Guid DNS name
(b3a42e5f-1c8b-4871-9753-
53614f65ab38._msdcs.port.com) couldn't be
resolved, the server name (kid1.port.com)
resolved to the IP address
(192.168.0.2) and was pingable. Check that the
IP address is
registered correctly with the DNS server.

Skipping all tests, because server KID1 is
not responding to directory service requests

this means that the server records for your domain controller are not
registerd in DNS... you will need to verify your DNS settings and if you
find that you have the correct zones hosted on your DNS server you will need
to do one of the following from a cmd prompt:
"net stop netlogon & net start netlogon"
"nltest.exe /dsregdns"

nltest.exe is a reskit tool that I highly recommend

tx

Yep.. that is required.. that is where all of your DC specific records get
placed. You will need to add it back or eventually bad things will happen.
Like NO replication between DC's etc...

tx

The ZONE corresponding to your domain name must be
dynamic also.

If you deleted those sub domains (e.g. _msdcs) or need
to switch the zone to dynamic, you need to do the

net stop netlogon
net start netlogon

Ok...now i guess i should of not deleted that file(_msdcs)
but how do i recreate it,is it a ZONE or what?

jay

You don't need to MANUALLY recreate it usually.

Make the Zone dynamic, stop/start netlogon and the DC
will create it (if necessary.)

It is a (sub) domain technically NOT a zone in Win2000.
It can be either a subdomain or a child zone though.
